CVSA International Roadcheck Starts Today!!

This year's Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) International Roadcheck campaign starts today, May 16th, and will continue through May 18th.

CVSA's International Roadcheck 2023 has special emphasis on on anti-lock braking systems (ABS) and cargo securement. Focusing on specific areas each year helps bring awareness to those certain aspects of the roadside inspection, better preparing drivers in the future.

During inspection of ABS and cargo securement, inspectors will be looking for the following:

  • Determination if ABS is required

  • Ensure ABS lamp cycles on and off for required vehicles

  • Check for ABS malfunction indicators

  • Ensure spare tires, loads, cargo, and dunnage are secured and prevented from rolling, shifting, falling, blowing, spilling or leaking from the vehicle

  • Confirm amount of tiedowns used for weight and length of cargo

  • Check for defective securement devices

  • Inspect anchor points

To help you better prepare your drivers for this year's Roadcheck season, it is a great idea to put them through refresher training for both Cargo Securement and Pre/Post Trip Inspection.

Conducting a proper pre/post trip inspection will help you spot maintenance that needs to be done on your vehicle, and could potentially stop vehicle malfunction leading to a crash. The pre/post trip inspection will also help you spot issues that could have otherwise been found by enforcement personnel while they conducted a roadside inspection.

Knowing how to properly secure all load types, both by weight and length is imperative for not only protecting your load but protecting others on the road. Plus, with CVSA International Roadcheck 2023 focusing on cargo securement, there has never been a better time to really consider putting your drivers through training.

What to expect from a roadside inspection:

There are eight different levels of inspection that could be performed on a driver and/or their vehicle. CVSA has a helpful comprehensive explanation of each of the inspection levels. For this however, we are going to focus on the level one and level two inspections, as they are the most comprehensive. For more information visit the link below!
